Why Vaccines?
Vaccinations are not fun, we know that, but they are so important. When children are born they receive temporary protection from the mother, this is called passive immunity. This immunity only lasts a few weeks and then these precious children are at risk for diseases that have the potential to kill them.
A child’s body may not be strong enough to fight off these dangerous diseases alone, but in combination with vaccinations they will be protected for life. Before vaccines, many children died from diseases like polio, measles, and pneumonia, but with the addition of vaccines these diseases are not seen nearly as often. Vaccines not only protect your children, but they protect the community, as well. Whooping cough is a horrible disease that kills many newborn babies each year. The vaccine is given when children are 15 months old and therefore; these newborns need to be protected by other children in the community receiving the vaccine.
Vaccines are very safe. With all the bad publicity revolving vaccinations these days, we can all feel secure in understanding that there is no evidence to justify these claims. The most common side effects are muscle soreness and a mild fever. The more serious side effects occur in one-per-millions of vaccinations given. So rest assured, when choosing to vaccinate your children, you are doing the best thing possible for their health and hopefully after meeting the “Vaccine Team”, they will think so as well.
